Porcelain Crowns

A porcelain crown is a shell that is cemented over the own tooth to cover cracks, splits or discoloured patches. It can also be used to esthetically improve and strengthen teeth consisting of many or large fillings. The crowns are individually made, so as to fit each tooth perfectly. Nowadays crowns are always made of porcelain and are impossible to distinguish from natural teeth. A porcelain crown can immensely improve a person's smile.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are used to conceal misshaped, dented or chipped teeth. Veneers may even be used to correct an uneven row of teeth. Porcelain veneers are, like porcelain crowns, individually made. The thin veneers are cemented onto the visible part of the tooth and look completely natural. Porcelain veneers may last up to 25 years with the appropriate care.

Porcelain Bridges

Aurakliniken can now offer all-porcelain bridges for esthetic improvements on teeth and implants by using a new and extremely durable porcelain material.

Porcelain Fillings

It is often possible to produce individually fitted porcelain fillings, so called inlays or onlays, as an alternative to the regular white composite fillings. The treatment is more expensive but the result is more durable. Onlays are mostly used on the teeth at the far back to improve durability. Inlays are often used when a large part of the natural tooth is intact.

Composite Fillings

Composite fillings are white fillings, which have replaced the old amalgam fillings. Different types of composite materials are used depending on the size and location of the filling. The white fillings are chemically bonded to the tooth and are available in several different colours to correspond to the colour of the natural tooth.

Smile Design

Can a patient change the shape and colour of his/her teeth? Aurakliniken will show the patient the final results before commencing the treatment. The patient’s wishes are discussed with the dentist in order to choose the appropriate treatment, taking the patient’s lip line and facial shape into consideration. The results are presented on a wax-up of the patient’s smile. The results may sometimes even be shown directly in the patient’s mouth by doing a so-called mock-up.

Teeth Correction

For a person with crooked or crowded teeth, a correction may be a preferred treatment to for instance porcelain veneers. A consultation with the orthodontist will help make the best decision.

Teeth Whitening

Coffee, tea, smoking and red wine are factors that discolour teeth, meanwhile common aging causes the teeth to darken over time. There are several different methods to make the teeth whiter and more beautiful, of which we offer the best method on the market. The result of the whitening can be accurately measured before commencing the treatment at the clinic.

Aurakliniken has been whitening teeth at the clinic for more than six years and only authorised dental personnel is permitted to perform our chair-side teeth whitening.

Teeth Whitening with Zoom Advanced Power

The latest and best method for whitening teeth is called Zoom Advanced Power. Zoom is ranked as the number one method to whiten teeth by the catalogue that ranks all scientifically documented treatments on the US-market.

The Zoom-treatment begins by identifying the colour of the patient’s teeth using a colour scheme. Next, the lips and gums are protected and the Zoom Whitening Gel is applied to the patient’s teeth. A Zoom-light, which will activate the gel, is placed in front of the patient’s mouth. This will allow stains caused by for instance aging, coffee and smoke to be removed. The procedure is repeated three times, sometimes four, in sets of fifteen minutes. In the meantime, the patient is relaxing in our comfortable dental chair. When the treatment is completed, a comparison of the colour of the teeth is made by once again looking at the colour scheme.

Aurakliniken has chosen to work with Zoom as it is a well-documented treatment, which has been used for years in the US. After trying other methods, it was clear that Zoom would yield the best results. There are no documented side effects caused by teeth whitening except occasional mild shooting pains in the patient’s teeth during, and up to a day after, the treatment.

Whitening at Home

A patient preferring to whiten his/her teeth at home can use dental trays. At the first appointment an impression of the patient’s teeth is taken. A second appointment is necessary to try out the dental trays and carefully go through the process of using the whitening gel and taking proper care of the dental trays.

Airflow

Airflow is used by dental hygienists to quickly and efficiently remove plaque, film and superficial stains from a patient’s teeth. A jet of air, bicarbonate and water painlessly removes stains from for instance coffee, tea or tobacco. The Airflow spray tastes like either lemon or mint, leaving the patient’s mouth with a fresh and pleasant sensation. At the same time the teeth become whiter and more beautiful.

Porcelain or Gold Inlays

Porcelain or gold inlays can be used instead of ordinary fillings. The inlays are individually made to ensure a perfect fit on the patient’s teeth. Nowadays the majority of inlays are for esthetic reasons made out of porcelain but they can also be made out of gold, which is a more elastic and extremely durable alternative.

Gingival and Periodontal Disease

Dental plaque and calculus may cause a person to lose his/her teeth, as a deterioration of the gums and the alveolar bone is caused. Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gingiva, which causes red, swollen and bleeding gums. Regular visits to the dental hygienist helps prevent this condition. The dental hygienist removes dental plaque and calculus and polishes the patient’s teeth. Instructions on how to take better care of the teeth and gums are also given. Periodontal disease is an inflammation of the gingiva linked with loss of bone and sometimes teeth and gives the same symptoms as gingivitis. The symptoms are stronger and the condition may require a surgical procedure, which is performed by our specialist.

Bad Breath

Consider your breath, others do! Bad breath, also called halitosis, often indicates that it is time for a visit to the dental hygienist. However, Aurakliniken’s Oxyfresh products can alleviate bad breath in less severe cases.

Root Canal Treatment

Every tooth has a pulp, which reaches from the tooth to the alveolar bone, consisting of nerves and blood vessels. A root canal treatment is performed when the pulp is infected and causes pain and toothache. A root canal treated tooth may have a darker colour than a vital tooth but it functions and feels the same. A root canal treated tooth is often covered with a porcelain or gold crown to strengthen it. Aurakliniken’s endodontic specialist performs all root canal treatments.

Wisdom Teeth

Many people have their wisdom teeth removed in their late teens and twenties to prevent crowding and to obtain optimal health in teeth and gums. Although patients tend to worry about this treatment, most of the cases are easily and quickly treated.

Teeth Grinding/Pressing

Most patients do not realise that they grind or press their teeth because it often occurs when sleeping. Headaches in the morning and exhaustion or tension in the jaw may be a sign of teeth grinding/pressing. The problem is usually alleviated by using a bite splint/guard at night. After larger esthetic treatments, such as porcelain veneers or crowns, we recommend our patients to use a bite splint/guard to protect their new teeth. However, prosthetic corrections may be necessary in some cases.

Digital X-rays

Aurakliniken has used Digital X-rays for several years as there are several advantages:

- the patients are only exposed to 10% of the amount of radiation caused by conventional X-rays.
- the pictures are immediately developed.
- the patients may see an enlargement on screen, making it much easier to show eventual irregularities.
- the staff does not need to deal with toxic solutions to develop the pictures, which in turn is better for the environment.

Implants

Implants are artificial roots, made out of titanium, which are attached to the alveolar bone during surgery.

Implants may replace a single tooth (single implant), several teeth or a whole jaw. The artificial roots are "fused" with the bone and used to support artificial teeth made of crowns or bridges. The treatment improves a person’s speech, ability to chew and gives an esthetically pleasing appearance. The surgeries are performed by Aurakliniken’s Implant surgery specialist at the clinic.

Bridges

A bridge can be made short for a single missing tooth or long to cover a whole jaw. The materials vary from all-ceramic bridges to bridges with gold, covered by porcelain or acrylic. Sometimes titanium bridges are made. We prefer to work with porcelain or similar materials to achieve an optimal esthetic appearance. The dental lab technicians will make the teeth identical, making it impossible to tell the natural teeth from the prosthetics!

Usually the patient wishes to have prosthetic teeth like the teeth he/she once had but it is possible to change the colour and the shape of the new teeth if desired.

Partial Dentures

Removable prosthetics may sometimes be the best solution to replace a missing tooth. Partial dentures are attached to the adjacent teeth by small metal clasps, improving the chewing ability and preventing the lips and cheeks from sinking in. A partial denture is often more affordable than a whole bridge and may therefore be a good alternative.
